It is essential that Nottingham builds a modern, high capacity and frequent rapid transit system (NET) to cope with the growing numbers of people who wish to travel within it. The car by comparison is an inefficient method of transport, usually carrying only 1 person and clearly there isn't enough room on the roads or space for parking. Congestion is leading to aggressive driving and increased risk taking. THE CURRENT CAR SYSTEM ISN'T WORKING.
National Government in the UK is unable to provide all the funding for the public schemes that are needed and so sensibly some finance should be found from local sources, including those who use the roads.
Work place parking charges should be targeted on the routes/areas where the NET does or will operate in the future and will provide the opportunity to use a modern public transport system that has already proved it can get drivers out of their cars.
